Gerald I. "Jerry" Sprenkle, Jr.

Gerald I. “Jerry” Sprenkle, Jr, 76, of Hanover, PA, entered God's eternal care Sunday, June 16, 2024, at UPMC Hanover Hospital.

Born October 8, 1947, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Gerald I., Sr., and Betty J. (Strausbaugh) Sprenkle. 

Jerry was a 1965 graduate of Hanover High School.  He worked for York International for 42 years until his retirement in 2007.

Jerry was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA.

Jerry loved his family very much.  He enjoyed summer picnics and holiday parties at his home.  He was very proud to install a swimming pool in his yard for use by his nieces and nephews and their friends during the summer months.  Every Father’s Day for many years, Jerry would look forward to the Sprenkle reunion in Newberrytown, PA to visit with his extended family.

Jerry was infamous throughout the community during the holiday season for his outdoor Christmas light display that surrounded his home.  He also had an extensive train collection that he would set up in the basement of his home for his family to enjoy.

Jerry was an avid bowler, who enjoyed bowling in a league for many years with his mother, father, and sister.

Jerry loved Dale Earnhardt and watching NASCAR races on tv.  He was fortunate to attend a few NASCAR races with his brother Randy.  He was also a huge fan of John Wayne.  Watching old westerns movies was a favorite pastime.

Jerry is survived by his sisters, Karen Martz and Vickie Storm both of Hanover, PA as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Sprenkle.

Jerry was a selfless individual who devoted many years to caring for his parents in their elder years.  He was a hard worker in all aspects of his life.  His family could always rely on him.  He never complained and always had a smile on his face.

A service to celebrate and remember Jerry will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the  Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating. Visitation and time to share memories will be from 9-10 AM, Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
