Gladys G. Shank

Gladys G. Shank, 94, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care Sunday, August 30, 2026, with loving family by her side.

Born January 28, 1932, in Alesia, MD, she was the daughter of the late Sterling J. J. and Sarah E. (Dubs) Gobrecht.  Gladys was the loving wife of Daniel Shank, with whom she shared 18 years of marriage until his passing on June 28, 1999. 

Gladys was a 1950 graduate of Eichelberger High School, and worked as a secretary for many years, retiring from W.L. Sterner.

She was a lifetime member of St. Bartholomew’s United Church, ELCA, Hanover, PA, where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir, and served on the Church Council.

She enjoyed volunteering for the Hanover Cancer Society, HACC’s PAL Lunch Program and Clothing Bank, and the Senior Companion Program at Golden Visions.

Gladys loved being with family and hosted many occasions.  Having visitors was a great joy in her life. 

She is survived by her children, Diane Buvia, Christine Myers and husband Mark, and Larry Bixler; two stepsons, Daniel Shank Jr. (Mitch), and Jack Shank (Cindy); four grandchildren; five step grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by stepson Terry Shank and great granddaughter Bekah McClellan. She is survived by her five younger siblings and friends, Sterling, Dean, Pearl Hoff (Gerald), Eileen Becker (Ted), and Allen (Pat) Gobrecht.  

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Gladys will be held 11AM, Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Rev. Steven E. Thomas officiating.  Burial will be in St. Bartholomew’s Church Cemetery.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held before the service from 10AM-11AM.

Contributions may be made in memory of Gladys to St. Bartholomew’s United Church, ELCA, 1204 Grand Valley Road, Hanover, PA 17331, to the Guthrie Memorial Library, 2 Library Place, Hanover, PA 17331 or any charity of your choice.
