Gordon “Gordy” Raymond Zartman, 81, formerly of Hanover, PA, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at his home in Cohoes, NY, surrounded by loving family.
Born October 29, 1943, in Hanover, PA, he was the loving husband of Ellen Marie (Miller) Zartman with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Gordon was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hanover and Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Cohoes, NY.
Gordon was a graduate of Hanover High School Class of 1962. Gordon was a dedicated employee at Utz Quality Foods for over 30 years. Prior to working for Utz, he worked for Pressell’s Florist, where he developed his love for plants and flowers. He also served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard during his early years.
In addition to his love for plants, Gordon enjoyed collecting pottery and reading about history and religion. In recent years, he discovered YouTube and all the history, religion, and food videos that it had to offer.
Gordon enjoyed polka dancing while his knees could still manage it, and he and Ellen would travel to Wildwood, NJ and Wheeling, WV with friends for polka conventions.
Gordon was a member of many social organizations in Hanover over the years, including the Amvets, the VFW, the American Legion, the Eagles, the Moose, the Elks, and the Hanover Home Association. He served various roles in many of these organizations during his younger years.
In addition to his loving wife Ellen, Gordon leaves behind two sons, Patrick Zartman (Patricia) of York, PA and Anthony Zartman (Donald Russell) of Cohoes, NY. He was the proud grandfather of Specialist Liam Zartman of the United States Army.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gordon will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA, with Father Michael Rothan as celebrant. Inurnment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Providing Military Honors. A visitation and time to share memories with family will be held an hour before the service, from 10-11AM at the church.
