Harold J. Bair Obituary

Harold John Bair, 98, of Hanover, PA, entered God's eternal care, Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Homewood Living Plum Creek, Hanover, PA, with his loving family by his side.

Born July 15, 1927, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late John L. and Velare (Sell) Bair. Harold’s loving wife, Shirley, to whom he was married for 69 years, pre-deceased him in 2022.

Harold was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover, PA. He was a life member of American Legion Post 14, Penn Township Fire Emergency Service, Moose Lodge, and McSherrystown Fish and Game.

Harold was a 1941 graduate of Pennville Elementary School and a 1945 graduate of Eichelberger High School, Hanover, PA. He was employed at Mummert-Dixon Company, and as a Tool and Die Maker at Hanover Industrial Machine Company (HIMCO) for more than 30 years retiring in 1992 as General Foreman of Manufacturing.

He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army Engineer Corp as a demolition specialist and was honorably discharged in 1947.

Harold was active in Scouting as a Cubmaster and an Assistant Scoutmaster for 11 years. He enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, camping and hiking. He and Shirley travelled to many National and State Parks and to several different countries. He enjoyed watching Penn State University sports.

Harold is survived by his children, Steven H. Bair, Jeffrey A. Bair and wife Mary, Michael S. Bair and wife Candy, and Kelly A. Bair and husband Peter Engler; five grandchildren, Josiah Bair, Scott Bair, Brandy Bair, Samantha Engler, and Sean Engler; four great-grandchildren, Bryce, Madelynne, Grayson, and Gage.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Harold will be held Friday, May 29, 2026 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Rev. Dr. Steve Ostendorf officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Friday, May 29, 2026 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harold’s name to the Children’s Miracle Network Hershey, 1249 Cocoa Avenue #115, Hershey, PA 17033, www.cmnhershey.org, or to the Homewood Benevolent Fund, 425 Westminster Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331.
