Herbert M. Bartell, 96, of New Oxford, PA, entered into God's eternal care, Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, PA.
Born October 29, 1928, in Glyndon, MD, he was the son of the late George W. and Irene Bartell. Herbert was the loving husband of the late Betty (Hetrick) Bartell with whom he shared 63 years of marriage until her passing on October 16, 2014.
Herbert was a veteran, serving his country proudly in the United States Army. He worked as a splicer for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company, and later Verizon, until his retirement. He was also an Auxiliary Policeman for Baltimore County, MD.
Herbert was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Hanover. He was a Free and Accepted Mason, and a member of the Sharon Lodge #182, Reisterstown, MD. He was an Associate Grand Guardian of Job’s Daughters for the State of Maryland.
Herbert was a Cessna 150 pilot and a member of the Gettysburg Barnstormers. His passion was flying.
Herbert loved cross-stitching and his Bassett hounds.
Herbert is survived by his children, Deborah Stiegler and husband Dennis of Gettysburg, PA, David Bartell and wife Sandra of Littlestown, PA, Denise Carney and husband Keith of Hanover, PA, Dennis Bartell and his wife Kimberly of Abbottstown, PA, seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas and Dean Bartell.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Herbert’s life will be held 11AM, Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with Rev. Kirk A. Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Burial Detail providing Military Honors. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Wednesday, March 26, 2025 as well as from 10-11AM, Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the funeral home.
Serving as casketbearers will be his grandsons, Matthew Bartell, Christopher Scheder, Nicholas Bartell, Kevin Bartell, Scotty Bartell and Trevor Briscoe.
