Howard L. "Skip" Markle

Howard L. “Skip” Markle, 82, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at UPMC Hanover Hospital, with his loving family by his side.

Born March 21, 1943, in West York, PA, he was the son of the late Emory H. and Viola D. (Gordon) Markle.  Skip was the loving husband of Cindy L. (Laughman) Markle with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.

Skip was a 1961 graduate of South Western High School, Hanover, PA.  He served his country proudly as a member of the Army National Guard.  Skip retired from P. H. Gladfelter, where he worked as a chemist in the lab for 40 years.              

Skip was a life member of the Hanover Home Association, the McSherrystown Home Association, and the New Oxford Social Club; and a member of  the McSherrystown Moose, AMVETS Post #22, Harold Bair American Legion Post #14, the Hanover Eagles, the Third District Gun Club of West York, the NFC Cruzers, and the NSRA.

Skip enjoyed hunting, fishing, street rods, and spending time with his friends and family.

In addition to his loving wife, Cindy, Skip is survived by two sons, Christopher H. Markle of New Salem, PA, and Ronald L. Markle of Spring Grove, PA; four grandchildren, David, Christopher, Allison, and Sarah-Jane; and six great-grandchildren, Michael, Dixie, Emory, Sofia, Scarlett, and Remington.                     

Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate and remember Skip will be held 7:00PM, Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Marburg Memorial Gardens.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00-7:00PM, Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the funeral home.
