Irene T. Shutts, 100, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care Monday, September 1, 2025, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, NY, with her loving family by her side.
Born November 28, 1924, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Irvin O. and Lestella M (Ruby) Thieret. Irene was the loving wife of the late Stewart C. Shutts, who passed away February 19, 1993. She was the loving companion of Fred W. Swisher, who passed away in 2010.
Irene was a 1943 graduate of Eichelberger High School, Hanover, PA, and was the class secretary. Irene started her career as a secretary for Hanover High School Administrative offices. Later she worked as a personal secretary for the C.N. Myers family members for more than 50 years.
Irene was a member of Trinity UCC, Hanover, PA.
Irene volunteered as an usher at EPAC. She enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and travelling, and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Wendy S. Bender and husband Charles of Delanson, NY; two grandchildren, Amy Bender and her husband, Asa Gismervik and a 5 year-old grandson Arlo of Niskayuna, NY, and C. Scott Bender and his wife Kaylan of Nashville, TN; a brother-in-law, Alexander E. Cook and his wife of Ellicott City, MD; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Louise R. Little and husband Richard of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister-in-law, Barbara S. Raber and her husband of New Oxford, PA.
Following cremation, graveside services will be private and at the convenience of the family in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
