J. William Greene, DMD Obituary

J. William “Doc” Greene, 81, of Hanover, PA, peacefully entered God’s eternal care, Friday, October 20, 2023, at WellSpan York Hospital, York, PA.

Born January 31, 1942, in South Huntingdon Township, PA, he was the son of the late John W. and Anna M. (McKetta) Greene. Dr. Greene was the devoted husband of Trudy M. (Kessler) Greene with whom he shared thirty-six years of marriage.

Dr. Greene was a veteran, serving his country proudly in the United States Navy.

Dr. Greene was a 1959 graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, PA. He attended Johns Hopkins University, and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Greene was a beloved dentist in Hanover, PA for fifty-one years. He started his practice in 1972, and worked alongside his partner, Dr. Jon Hart for over forty-five years, continuing to practice on a limited basis until just before his passing.

Dr. Greene was a member of the Hanover Arcadian Club and a past President of the York Gettysburg Dental Society.

“Doc” loved traveling with his soulmate Trudy, especially to their favorite spots in Florida, Vermont, and Williamsburg. They also loved watching Pitt Panther Football and the Philadelphia Phillies together.

In addition to his loving wife, Trudy, Doc is survived by his children, John W. “Jack” Greene III and wife Kim of Manchester, PA, Dr. Robert W. Grover, DMD and wife Melissa of Melbourne, FL, Wendy L. Ellsworth and husband Scott of Lehi, UT, and Suzanne M. Grover of Gettysburg, PA; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, and a sister, Nancy Greene Govi of Greensburg, PA.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
