James Frye

James “Jim” Frye, 86 of Chambersburg, Pa, passed away peacefully at his home on August 12, 2025.

Born on March 18,1939, in Buladean, North Carolina, Jim was the son of the late Void Frye and Bonnie J. Ledford Frye. He grew up with a strong sense of family and faith that would guide him throughout his life.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army during his early years. After his military service, he dedicated himself to building a life rooted in love and hard work. He was a devoted husband to his first wife Geraldin Frye, and together they raised four children, Bonnie Sue, Loretta Jean, Jim and Greg. Jim worked as talented machinist at Westinghouse in Maryland until his retirement. He was later remarried to his late wife Zosima “Suzie” Frye.

A man of many talents and passions, Jim built two homes for his family with his own hands. He had an appreciation for craftsmanship and history which he expressed through collecting and refinishing antiques. Whether sitting on his front porch enjoying the day, caring for his tomato plants and garden or stopping at every yard sale or fruit stand he came across, Jim always found joy in life’s simple pleasures.

Above all else, Jim loved Jesus and his family with all of his heart. Before falling ill, Jim was a member of Greenwood Assembly of God, where he found strength in faith and fellowship.

Jim leaves behind a loving legacy through his children: daughter Bonnie Sue Powers; son James D. Frye and Gregory Tyler Frye; as well as numerous grandchildren: Jason Robertson, Emily Johnson. Felicia Randolph, Krystle Panchel, James Frye, Channelle Whetzel, Tyler Frye, Dusty Frye, Sasha Baldwin and Joshua Wilhelm. He was also proudly blessed with 19 great-grandchildren. His sister Rosella “Rosie” Rickell also survives him.

He is reunited in peace with those who went before him: His beloved wife Suzie, daughter Loretta Jean, Granddaughter Angela Marie, parents Void and Bonnie Frye and sisters Lucille Geesey and Margaret Schuhart.

Jim’s life was one of devotion- to God, to family to country and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.  Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  A visitation will be held from 10 – 11 AM, Monday, August 18, 2025, at the funeral home.
