James C. Witmer, 78, of Spring Grove, PA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at home, with his loving wife by his side.
Born December 18, 1946, in Ephrata, PA, he was the son of the late Arnold F. and Ruth E. (Sweigart) Witmer. James was the loving husband of Nancy E. (Landis) Witmer with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.
James was a member of Garber’s Mennonite Fellowship, Spring Grove, PA.
James was a respiratory therapist and worked at Hanover Hospital for many years and at the Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster, MD for many years until retirement.
In addition to his loving wife, Nancy, James is survived by his children, Pamela Witmer, Mike Witmer and wife Janelle, Steve Witmer and wife Sue, Kathy (Witmer) Maldaner and husband Bruce, Carolyn (Witmer) Horst and husband Linford, and Kimberly (Witmer) Good and husband Josh; his grandchildren, Ryan Witmer, Grace Witmer, Reese Maldaner, Cameron Maldaner, Theoren Maldaner, Kip Maldaner, Rachelle Horst, Kayla Horst, Javin Horst, Donovan Horst, Bryson Horst, Annelise Horst, Miles Good, Lucas Good, Ian Good, Greta Good, Colin Good, and Molly Good; his siblings, Verna (Witmer) Horst and husband Irvin, Edith (Witmer) Burkholder Weaver and husband David, David Witmer and wife Elaine, and Miriam (Witmer) Sauder and husband Melvin; sisters-in-law, Marie Witmer and Esther Mae Witmer. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Marcus Horst; brothers, Paul Witmer and Marvin Witmer; sister, Phoebe Thompson and husband Richard; brother-in-law, Moses Burkholder; and sister-in-law, Gwen Witmer.
A funeral service for James will be held 1:30PM, Friday, October 24, 2025, at Bair’s Mennonite Church, 6925 Hanover Rd, Hanover, PA 17331. Burial will be in Garber’s Church Cemetery, Spring Grove, PA. Visitations will be held from 2:00-4:00PM and from 6:00-8:00PM, Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Bair’s Mennonite Church.
