James A. Menges

James A. Menges, 80, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s Eternal Care, Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Homewood at Plum Creek Nursing Center with his loving family by his side.

Born August 9, 1946, in East Berlin, PA he was the son of the late Charles A. and Dolly M. (McIntire) Menges.  He was the loving husband of the late Laura “Laurie” E. (Wright) Menges with whom he shared thirty-five years of marriage until her passing on January 25, 2018.

Jim was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA, the Penn Township Fire Police, and a life member of the NRA, Hanover VFW Post 2506, American Legion Post 14, and the Vietnam Veterans of America.  

Jim was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served his country proudly as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War.

Jim was a 1964 graduate of Bermudian Springs High School, received his B.S. in Education from Shippensburg University in 1968, and later his Master’s in Education from Western Maryland College.   Mr. Menges retired in 1999 from the Hanover Public School District after 29 years of teaching.

Jim is survived by his children, Charles Menges of Wernersville, PA, James Menges of Collegeville, PA, Jason Menges of Bel Air, MD, Jennifer Menges of Riverview, FL, and Lisa Menges of Hanover, PA, as well as six grandchildren.

Following cremation, a visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10-11 AM, Thursday, September 3, 2026, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 West Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA, followed by a memorial service to celebrate and remember Jim’s life at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Faye Snyder officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail providing Military Honors.
