Janice D. Hockensmith

Janice D. Hockensmith, 76, of Hanover, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023, at her home.

Born May 5, 1947, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gale F. and Catherine S. (Woodring) Little. Janice was the loving wife of the late Leonard F. Hockensmith, Sr., with whom she shared 35 years of marriage until his passing on May 15, 2002. Together they were devoted parents to two sons, Josh and Len.

Janice was a 1965 graduate of Hanover High School. She worked as a realtor for over 20 years, serving the Hanover area community until her retirement from ERA Preferred Properties.

Janice was an avid reader, collector, and sharer of books. She loved playing cards and Mahjongg with her family. She was a passionate sports fan, loving nothing more than sharing a good meal with family while watching a hockey game.

Janice is survived by her son Josh Hockensmith and daughter-in-law Margarite Nathe, of Pittsboro, NC, and siblings, Judy Markle and husband Thomas of Spring Grove, PA, Deb Brady and husband Jeff of Lehigh Acres, FL, and John Little and wife Sandie of Venice, FL. She was preceded in death by one son, Leonard F. Hockensmith, Jr. in 1994.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Children’s Inn at NIH, 7 West Drive, Bethesda, MD 20814-1509, where the family was cared for during Len, Jr.’s illness and passing.
