Janice Adams Riley, of Hanover, Pa., loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on February 8, 2024.
Jan was born in McSherrystown, Pa. on March 3, 1943, and graduated from Delone Catholic High School in 1961. In fact, it was at Delone where she met the love of her life and future husband John J. “Jack” Riley. She then attended Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Pa., where she earned her degree in 1963. She began her career as a medical secretary and advanced to a medical transcriptionist during her tenure at Holy Spirit Hospital.
As a lifelong resident of Hanover, Jan was very committed to the vitality of our area hospitals. She was a long-time Board Member of the Hanover Hospital Auxiliary and ran the Hanover Hospital hospitality shop for decades.
Jan was preceded in death by her father Joseph Adams and mother Ethel Virginia Adams (nee’ Duck) and her sister Delores Elaine Orndorff (nee’ Adams). She is survived by her beloved husband Jack of 58 years, as well as her three daughters and their husbands, Andrea and Chris Taylor of Bald Head Island, N.C., Jennifer and Chris Baggini of Radnor, Pa., and Karen and Tom Jamerson of Midlothian, Va. The true joys of her life were her five grandchildren, Jack Taylor, Katherine Taylor, Abby Baggini, Ellie Baggini, and Julia Baggini, to whom she will always be “Grand Jan.” She is also survived by her sister Beverly A. Rebling (nee’ Adams) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jan’s life story would be incomplete without mentioning her countless dear friends which included her “card club”. She spent many joyful years having fun with life-long friends and creating lasting memories. Jan was a true Hanoverian, and she will be missed by so many whose lives were touched by her kind heart and dedicated friendship.
The family will receive all who want to honor Jan’s life at Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, Pa., on Sunday, February 16, 2025, between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third St. Hanover, Pa. on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Father Michael Reid. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery Hanover. A celebration of life will be held after the service at Highland Taps & Tables, 925 Westminster Avenue, Hanover, PA.
