Janise L. West

Janise L. West, 70, of Hanover, PA, entered God's eternal care Thursday, December 4, 2025. 

Born September 27, 1955, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late James M. and Marrian H. (Smith) West.   

Janise was a graduate of Douglas High School, Baltimore, MD.  She was the first black female mounted police officer in the City of Baltimore, retiring after 20 years of service.

Janise enjoyed shopping, exercising, doing word games, and spending time with her family.

Janise is survived by her son, Joel Houston and his wife Laura Houston of Middle River, MD; 2 grandchildren, Brayelle Houston and Asia Houston; and 4 great-grandchildren, Ari Houston, Amiyah Houston, Aaliyah Jones, and India Houston; and a brother, Darrell McKinnen.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
