Jay L. Garrett, 74, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Monday, April 24, 2023, at the York Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born December 7, 1948, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late John L. and Pauline E. (Culp) Garrett. Jay was the loving husband of Wanda J. (Wolfgang) Garrett with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Jay was a 1966 graduate of Hanover High School. He worked at Culp’s News Agency for 30 years from the time he was in 6th grade delivering newspapers. He worked for J.E. Baker Refractories for 25 years and then for the PA Liquor Control Board for 5 years until he retired.
Jay was a veteran, serving his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Jay was a member of The Hanover V.F. W. Post 2506, The Hanover AMVETS Post 22, the Hanover Home Association, and the McSherrystown Home Association.
In addition to his wife Wanda, Jay is survived by his children, Jay L. Garrett, Jr. of Harvest, AL, John K. Garrett of Hanover, PA, Elizabeth M. Garrett of Hanover, PA, four grandchildren, Alexia, McKenzie, Jesse, and Aikman and one sister, Paula L. Hansen of Chatham, MA.
A memorial service to celebrate and remember Jay’s life will be held 11 AM, Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc, 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Rev. Jeff Reaver officiating and the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail will provide Military Honors. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM, Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at the Hanover AMVETS Post 22 from 12:30pm-2:30pm following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jay to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
