Jerry E. Akers, Sr.

Jerry E. Akers, Sr., 84, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Hanover Hall Nursing Center, with his loving family by his side.

Born September 19, 1941, in Fireco, WV, he was the son of the late Ralph F. and Mamie Marie (Smith) Akers. Jerry was the loving husband of Carolyn K. (Byrge) Akers, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving his country from 1958 to 1969. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the GSA as a technician for more than 30 years until his retirement.

Jerry was a member of Missionary Bible Baptist Church in Hanover, PA. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and watching his beloved Orioles and Redskins.

In addition to his loving wife, Carolyn, Jerry is survived by his children, Tammy and husband John Toppins; Angela C. and husband Wesley Joseph; Jerry E. Akers, Jr. and wife Karen; and Jason W. Akers. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Christopher, Bryan, Christina, Kevin, Katie, and Tabatha; three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Leya, and Calli; and two siblings, Sister Maxine and husband Lewis Adkins, and brother Tommy Akers and Danielle Coleman.

Jerry was preceded in death by his siblings, Hazel Barker, Kay Craig, Phyllis Akers, Mildred Lester, Elsie Perkins, Linda Mullins, Freda Purdue, and Robert Akers.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Jerry’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with his pastor, Rev. Mark Rohnke, officiating. Burial will follow at New Oxford Cemetery, where the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the funeral home.
