Joan Marie (Gilley) Sheedy

Joan Marie Sheedy, 78, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care Monday, July 20, 2026, at UPMC Hanover with her loving family by her side.

Born January 6, 1948, in Havre De Grace, MD, she was a daughter of the late Hunter F. and Anna (Hitchcock) Gilley, Sr.  Joan was the loving wife of James Sheedy, Jr., with whom she shared 35 years of marriage. 

Joan finished high school in her 11th grade year to raise her family, and went on to earn her GED.  She was a member of Welcome Home Free Will Baptist Church in Bel Air, MD.

She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in her yard, flower gardening, photography, but above all she loved spending time with her family.  Her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. 

In addition to her husband, James, Joan is survived by her children, Jamie Raleigh and husband, Chester of Taneytown, MD, Schoen Goodfellow and partner, Kim Jacobson of Owings Mills, MD and Ed Goodfellow and partner, Terri Peterson of Jarrettsville, MD; grandchildren, Skyler Goodfellow, Liliana Raleigh, and Logan Raleigh; sister, Ruth Johnson; brother, Randy Gilley; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was also preceded in death by sisters, Janet Long and Beatrice Fekette; and brothers, Hunter Gilley, Jr., Richard Gilley, Roy Gene Gilley, and Leon Gilley.

A service to celebrate and remember Joan’s life will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Welcome Home Church, 1303 Prospect Mill Road, Bel Air, MD, with Pastor Marshall Childers officiating.  A luncheon to immediately follow in the church hall.

Flowers may be sent to the church the day of the service.  Memorial donations may be made to Welcome Home Church in Joan’s honor.
