Joan M. Baumgardner

Joan M. Baumgardner, 84, of New Oxford, PA, entered God’s eternal care Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Highland View Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Brockway, PA.

Born October 26, 1940, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Herman F. and Romaine A. (Rudisill) Dickensheets.  Joan was the loving wife of Lester D. Baumgardner, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage.

Joan was a member of St. Paul’s Dubs Union Church, Hanover, PA, and the Hanover Home Association.

Joan was a 1958 graduate of Eichelberger Senior High School, Hanover, PA.  She retired in 2002, having worked as a CNA and in housekeeping at the Brethren Home Community for fourteen years.

Joan enjoyed playing bingo, yard sales, playing cards, visiting Benezette to hear elks bugle, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her loving husband, Lester, Joan is survived by two children, Cathy A. Lynch of Gettysburg, PA, and Duane E. Baumgardner of Hanover, PA; 4 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and a brother, Kerry Dickensheets of Camp Hill, PA.    

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Joan will be held 10:00AM, Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Stan Diehl officiating.  Burial will be in St. Paul’s Dubs Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6-8 PM, Friday, May 23, 2025 at the funeral home.
