Jody M. “Jojo” Groft, 60, of New Oxford, PA, entered God’s eternal care Friday, May 16, 2025, at home with her loving family by her side.
Born March 28, 1965, in Hanover, PA, the daughter of the late James E. and Lois E. (Freeman) Groft, and the stepdaughter of Connie (Luckabaugh) Groft.
Jody attended South Western High School. She worked for Freeman Shoe, and also as a bartender and waitress.
Jody was a former member of the Hanover AMVETS for many years.
Jody was lovingly called “Jojo” by her family and close friends. She did not have children, but she loved her nieces and nephews like her own, and loved spending time with her family. Jojo enjoyed playing cards and backgammon as well, and she would often win by a landslide. She also liked watching the game show network. She loved playing BINGO, and had a special love for animals, especially dogs. She loved dancing and watching bands in her younger years, and she loved the Baltimore Ravens.
Jojo was easy going with a wonderful sense of humor. She could always make you laugh. She didn’t like confrontation or disagreements. She always said life is too short to hold grudges. She truly cared and loved everybody. Jojo would always say, “I love you very much”. She will be dearly missed by her family!
Jojo is survived by six siblings, Michael Groft and wife Sharon of New Oxford, PA, Michelle Hoff and husband Ken, Melissa Groft and husband Johnnie, Kathy Long and husband Allen, Jennifer Long and husband Robert, and Amanda Miller and husband Brian, all of Hanover, PA; and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her fiancé, Darrell Schaffner, with whom she spent 10 years together; and a brother, Brian Groft.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Jody will be held 11:00AM, Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Pastor Scott Sager officiating. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00PM, Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
