John Miller Obituary

John Leroy Miller, 91, of Hanover, PA, died on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Miller was born on January 8, 1929 the son of the late Brinton Hiram Miller and Margaret V. (Kraut) Miller of Hampton.

Mr. Miller was an Army infantry veteran of World War II and retired from Bearings, Inc. as a branch manager in Trenton, NJ.  He was a member of Patmos #348 Masonic Lodge in Hanover and Mt. Moriah #116 Masonic Lodge, Towson, MD; a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Central Jersey, and a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Trenton Forrest Lodge #4, Trenton, NJ.

John was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.  He was a member of the Little Beaver Hunting Camp, Hanover VFW Post 2506, Adams County Fish & Game Club, and Hanover Exchange Club.

John loved hunting, fishing, playing cards with his friends and family.  He enjoyed time with family, attending school events for his grandchildren and playing with his great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Janet, two brothers, William and Robert.  John is survived by two brothers, Lee E. Miller of Hampton; Richard E Miller and his wife Ginger of New Oxford; and two sisters Joanne L. Fissel and her husband Bill of Hanover, and Betty Jane Corey and her husband Bob of Felton, Delaware; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Mary Lou; son John Howe and wife Regina of North Carolina; son Earl Ellwood of Littlestown; grandchildren: Mathew B. and wife Gina of North Carolina, John B. and wife Jessica of North Carolina, Jeremy H. and wife Heather of Arkansas, and Daniel L. and Abbey of Connecticut.  Great-Grandchildren: Alexandria B. Miller, Elizabeth (Eliza) G. Miller, John (Bower) B. Miller, Madelyn J. Miller, Rowan P. Miller, Henry G. Miller, and Victoria M. Miller. 

The funeral service will be held 11:00am, Saturday, September 5, 2020 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5450 Carlisle St, New Oxford, PA, with Vicar Ellen Lichtfuss and Rev. Larry A. McConnell officiating.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, New Oxford, PA with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail providing Military Honors and the Patmos Lodge #348 providing Masonic Services.  A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 Am, Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.  Due to COVID-19 requirements, only 25 people will be allowed in the funeral home at a time and masks are required. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of John L. Miller may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1240 Broadway, Hanover, PA 17331 or Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604.
