John W. “Bud” Markle, Jr., 81, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care Friday, December 8, 2023, at home.
Born November 7, 1942, in Hanover, Bud was the son of the late John W., Sr., & Hazel E. (Benedict) Markle. He was the loving husband to Violet Irene (Downin) Markle with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.
Bud graduated class of 1960 from Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, PA.
He was a veteran and served his country proudly in the U.S. Army.
Bud worked as the groundskeeper for Utz Quality Foods for 42 years until his retirement in 2009.
He attended Harvest Time Temple Church in Hanover, PA.
In his free time, Bud enjoyed gardening and taking care of plants. Another hobby was collecting flags, model trains, and baseball hats. Bud was a member of the AMVETS and was the Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack #103 for 14 years. Bud was also an avid historian and loved visiting the Gettysburg Battlefield.
In addition to his loving wife Violet, Bud is survived by his two sons, John W. Markle, III, & wife Penny of Hanover, PA, and Lawrence E. “Larry” Markle & wife Lisa of Middletown, PA, 6 grandchildren, Joshua D. Markle, Jordan P. Markle, Amanda L. Little, Colby A. Markle, Alexis N. Wilkins, and Nicholas A. Markle, and 5 great grandchildren, MacKenzie, Hunter, Kayden, Landon and Atlas. Bud is also survived by his sister Maureen Rinehart of Hanover, PA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard A. Markle.
A funeral service to remember Bud’s life will be held at 11 AM, Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA 17331, with Pastor Fred R. Mummert officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery and the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will present military honors. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the funeral home.
