John J. Plunkert

John J. Plunkert, 83, of Spring Grove passed away peacefully at the Pappus House January 4, 2026. He battled Multiple Myeloma for the past five years and fought hard to live. He was the companion of Marty Fitz, who cared for him at home over the last year.  John was born May 8, 1942, to the late Claude and Treva Plunkert on the family dairy farm in Littlestown, PA. John was always a farmer and cared for animals into his 80s and it was always his passion, as was his John Deer tractors. He also loved to go to tractor pulls and “pull” with his various tractors.  He especially loved going camping at Williams Grove’s Annual Steam show and showing off his tractors.  He worked in the paving industry for many years with Henson Paving, CJ Miller and lastly at JVI. 

His survivors include three children; Jeffery Plunkert (Cindy), Tina Durboraw (Todd) and John Cullison (Carrie), and many grandchildren. His surviving siblings are Ruth Parsons of Hanover, Calvin Plunkert (Connie) of Hanover, Kenneth Plunkert (Linda) of Gettysburg, Janet Dayhoff of Maryland, & Edith Mummert (Ronald) of Hanover.

A service to celebrate the life of John Plunkert will be held at Kenworthy Funeral Home in Hanover, PA on Monday, January 12, 2026.  Visitation will be 10am-11am with a service at 11am by the Pastor Dan Summers. Burial following the service at St. David’s Cemetery, Hanover PA.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove who took excellent care of him in his last months or the Pappus House in Thomasville.
