Josefine “Omie” Jones, 86, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the UPMC Hanover, PA.
Born October 13, 1933 in Augsburg, Germany, she was the daughter of the Josef Schoen and Wilhelmine (PIlster) Schoen. Josefine was the loving wife of the late Fred Jones who died November 13, 2005. They met in Germany when Fred was serving in the U.S. Army. He later retired and they moved to the United States to raise their family in Maryland. She taught herself how to speak English, drive a car and then became a US Citizen a very proud moment in her life. Josefine was a member of New Hope Faith Community Church, Hanover, PA.
Josefine will always be remembered for her amazing cooking by many. She often made German meals for others to show her gratitude for their hard work. She also loved, polka dancing and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed being out on the water swimming and the beach. Lover of animals, taking trips, watching cooking and crime shows. She truly enjoyed when she could travel back to Germany to be with family and celebrate many happy occasions. She was a social butterfly that could strike up a conversation with any stranger she met.
Josefine is survived by her children, Hans (Roswitha) Schoen of Zusamaltheim, Germany, Fred R. Jones of Hanover, PA , James R. Jones of Brooklyn Park, MD, and Josefine (Henry) Riston of Pasadena, preceded by her son Anthony (Genie) Jones of Silver Spring, MD. Attentive Oma to her five grandchildren, Josefine (Brandon) Payne, Jennica Jones, Jessica Jones, Belinda (Jack) Dougherty, and Taylor Talbot; one great grandchild, Jenson; beloved sister to Barbara Drittenpreis, Wilhelmine Geotz, Else Mueller, and Manfred Schoen, preceded by Marianne Widenbauer, and Dieter Schoen.
Due to the current pandemic, following cremation, it was Josefine’s wishes that her ashes be spread in the ocean. Her ashes will be spread in the Chesapeake on the day of the memorial service to be held at a later date.
