Joseph B. Markle

Joseph B. Markle, 77, of Hanover, PA, entered into God’s eternal care on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the UPMC Hanover Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph was born November 21, 1947, in Hanover, PA, the son of the late Burdett C. and Audrey G. (Markle) Markle.  Joe was the loving husband of Carolyn E. (Nelson) Markle with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.

Joseph was a 1965 graduate of Delone Catholic High School and served his country proudly in the United States Air Force.  He was a Lieutenant/Captain with the Hanover Fire Department, was very involved in the Mobile Coronary Care Unit, and his firefighting career spanned 35 years until his retirement.

Joe was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA, the International Association of Firefighters Local 2045, a Life member of Eagle Fire Company # 2, and a member of the Pennville Fire Company.

In addition to his loving wife Carolyn, Joe is survived by his stepdaughter, Stacy M. Parsons of Hanover, PA, two grandchildren, Xavier R. Markle and Reef L. Markle, and one sister, Debra M. Hahn of Hanover, PA.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael R. Markle.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Joe will be held at 11 AM, Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with Rev. Alex Sheppard-Witt officiating.  Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard providing Military Honors.   A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held 10 – 11 AM, Monday, March 31, 2025, at the funeral home.
