June Chronister Obituary

June Margaret (Flickinger) Chronister, 94, of Hanover, PA, entered into God’s eternal care from natural causes on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at UPMC Hanover Hospital.

June was born November 28, 1927, in Hanover, the daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret (Lansinger) Flickinger.  She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in McSherrystown and sang with the choir.  She later attended The First Church of God.  She possessed a very strong faith.

June was a dedicated employee of Middleburg Mfg. Co. for 23 years and was the resident manager of West Park Apts. where she did a stellar job and made many friends.

She was a 49-year breast cancer survivor and had been a Reach to Recovery volunteer.

As a teen June enjoyed roller skating at Forest Park and going to dances on Saturday afternoons with girlfriends.  In midlife, polka dancing was a passion.  She was devoted to her family and friends, was a good listener, and had a wonderful sense of humor.  Everyone loved being with her.

When she was no longer able to drive, she had visitors to her home nearly every day, and more often than not, her favorite card game or Rummikub was involved.  June was a wonderful cook and baker, and her fudge, slippery pot pie, stuffing and her mincemeat pies on Christmas Eve were family favorites.  She loved hummingbirds, jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and old movies.

Survivors include her two children, daughter Victoria Curry (Kenneth) of Hanover and son Michael Chronister (Kathy) of Spring Grove, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and so many dear and devoted friends.

June was preceded in death by a son Thomas, as well as her eight siblings, Pauline Runkle, Clinton Flickinger, Helen Rife, Charles Flickinger, Harry Flickinger, Mary Thieret, Earl Flickinger, and Pearl McManus Fanus  Her four brothers and a sister served in the military at the same time during World War II.

The family wishes to thank the staff at UPMC Hanover Hospital for their compassion and care.
