Karen Lee (Gabbert) Coulson, 83, of Littlestown, PA, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 4, 1942, in Morgantown, WVa, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Bruce and Katherine L. (Knox) Gabbert, Jr. Karen was the loving wife of Don B. Coulson, with whom she shared 24 years of marriage until his passing on February 27, 2026.
Karen attended Morgantown High School and graduated from Frederick High School (Maryland) and Hagerstown Business College. She worked for the Atomic Energy Commission and later in life as a store manager at Style Fabrics and an insurance agent with State Farm, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (honoring her Patriot ancestor, Hans Jacob Gebhardt), and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, sewing, crafting, watching tennis, golf and more recently the FIFA World Cup and most of all spending time with her family. She was also deeply interested in political affairs.
Karen is survived by her children, Kevin Nelson and wife, Rebecca and Kim (Nelson) Clark and husband, Joseph Clark, Jr.; stepchildren, Deanne (Coulson) Flock and husband, Michael, and Chuck Coulson and wife, Sondra; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and her sisters, Patricia Wilson and husband, Will Wilson and Elizabeth Kumpula and husband, Keith Kumpula.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don B. Coulson; her son, Craig S. Nelson; and her sister, Connie E. Wynn.
A private graveyard service will be held to celebrate and remember Karen’s life. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karen’s honor to a charity of the donor’s choice.
