Kathleen A. Sterner, 91, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at UPMC Memorial Hospital, York, PA.
Born May 31, 1931, in McSherrystown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond P. and Mary E. (Small) Sanders. Kathleen was the loving wife of the late John V. Sterner with whom she shared 54 years of marriage until his passing on October 27, 2004.
Kathleen was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover, PA.
Kathleen was a 1949 graduate of Delone Catholic High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Schmuck Co. Inc. for eighteen years until her retirement in 1990 and also worked in the St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop.
Kathleen was a loyal NBA fan, following each and every team her son was coaching. She was also an avid Notre Dame football fan and over the years she and John traveled to attend many college games each fall. Kathleen was very active and until the pandemic she was a regular at the Hanover YMCA. She also loved her weekly lunches with various groups of friends.
Kathleen is survived by her son, Thomas M. Sterner and wife Marcia K. of Winter Garden, FL; two granddaughters, Malorie S. Graziani of Gotha, FL; and Paige E. Sterner of Indianapolis, IN; two great grandchildren Luca and Maddie; two sisters, Dorothy Sanders and Helen Sutphin of Hanover, PA; and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph A. Sanders Sr., Richard Sanders, and Raymond P. Sanders, and her sister Lorraine Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 7, 2022, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA, with Father Michael J. Reid II, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6-8 PM, Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kathleen’s name to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
