Kevin H. Smith, 66, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, May 22, 2026, at UPMC Hanover, with his loving family by his side.
Born June 21, 1959, in York, PA, he was the son of the late Donald K. and Drusilla A. (Hull) Smith.
Kevin was a 1977 graduate of Dallastown High School, PA. He played trumpet in the school band and starred in his first garage band “First Flight”. He was a veteran and served his country proudly in the United States Navy for 13 years, earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Assigned at Naval Stations in San Diego, Norfolk, and Jacksonville, he served on multiple service vessels as a sonar technician. The Navy recognized his talents for tracking submarines, and he became a lead instructor. Chief Smith was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, two Sea Service Ribbons and two Navy Achievement Medals.
After his military service, he briefly studied music at Messiah College with a focus on trumpet. Kevin was a true jack-of-all-trades. He worked as a defense contractor, youth minister, small electronic technician, art gallerist, music store manager, custom carpenter, land surveyor, and farmer. He also worked in contractor sales on and off at Lowe’s for 15 years.
Kevin was a talented musician and vocalist, playing stringed instruments for over 55 years with a special love for acoustic guitar. As a member of the Susquehanna Travellers, he performed Civil War era, Appalachian, and Irish music for nearly two decades. He played in numerous rock and folk bands throughout his life. Kevin loved nature and the outdoors, especially camping and hiking. He was an avid cyclist and reader and enjoyed collecting antiques.
Kevin is survived by his children, Justin D. (Krista) Smith of Norfolk, VA; Jenevieve A. Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; and Danielle M. Smith of West Point, VA; five grandchildren; a sister, Alicia A. Smith of Harrisburg, PA; and his beloved cat “B”, whom he adored. He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas H. Smith.
