Lamar E. Bortner

Lamar E. Bortner, 83, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at home with his loving family by his side.

Born March 23, 1942, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Earl W. and Alva I. (Markle) Bortner.  Lamar was the loving husband of Sharon F. Saltzgiver-Bortner with whom he shared 5 years of marriage and the late Patsy M. (Moul) Bortner with whom he shared 55 years of marriage until her passing on February 13, 2017. 

Mr. Bortner graduated from Eichelberger High School 1960, and received his BS in Engineering from the University of Maryland.

Lamar was a self-employed entrepreneur.  He was currently a partner in Warehouse Gourmet Bistro & Brewpub.

Mr. Bortner served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1965.  He was a member of the Navy Band playing both the viola and trumpet, and was a member of a string quartet that played for dignitaries.

Mr. Bortner was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, Charter Member of Parkside Harmony Chorus, and a member of the Hanover Fire Department.

In addition to his wife Sharon, Lamar is survived by two daughters, Lauren R. (Bortner) Gerlach and husband Brian of Hanover, PA, and Melinda C. (Bortner) Stambaugh and husband Keith of Hanover, PA, ten grandchildren, Thomas and wife Nicole, Philip, Jacob, Caleb and partner Mark, Saranda and fiancé Tom, Ethan, Malcolm, and Cooper, Ian and wife Meeghan, and Nathan, 8 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Glen Bortner and wife Sara of Ormond Beach, FL.

A service to celebrate and remember Lamar’s life will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating.  Burial will be in St. David’s Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Providing Military Honors.  There will be no viewing.
