Larry G. Blocher, 88, of Hanover, PA, entered God's eternal care, Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at SpiriTrust Lutheran at Utz Terrace.
Born March 16, 1936, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Oscar G. and Helen S. (Theiret) Blocher. Larry was the loving husband of Doris A. (Miller) Blocher with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.
Larry was a 1954 graduate of Eichelberger High School and a 1979 graduate of York College. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country proudly from 1955 – 1957.
Larry retired in 2001 after many years of service for the D. F. Stauffer Biscuit Company and Hershey Foods Corp. He was also a former partner in P&L Snacks.
Larry was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA, where he was in the choir for 30 years, had served on the Church Council, was part of the Instrumental Music group, and was part of the Eucharistic Ministry Team.
Larry was a member of the Patmos Lodge 348 F & M, and the Harrisburg Consistory and Shrine. He played in many bands in the area for over 60 years, including the P.O.S. of A., Moose, Lyric, and Brodbeck Bands as well as many others.
Larry traveled to all 50 states and more than 20 countries. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Doris, Larry is survived by two daughters, Darlene Klenk and husband Jeff, and Brenda Burns and husband Jerry, Jr., four grandchildren, Courtney Hippensteel, Katelyn Klenk, Jeremy Burns, and Tyler Klenk (Madison) and three great grandchildren, Lillian, Harrison, and Jameson. He was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Stauffer.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM, Monday, August 19, 2024 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA, with Rev. Faye Snyder and Rev. Alex Sheppard-Witt. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Church Cemetery, Snydersburg, MD. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6-8 PM, Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, as well as from 10 – 11 AM, Monday, August 19, 2024 at the church.
