Lettie M. Hess

Lettie M. Hess, 100, of Hanover, PA, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord Jesus, Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Born September 15, 1924, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clayton L. and Mabel M. (Kaltreider) Markle.  Lettie was the loving wife of the late Bernard H. Hess, whom she married on January 18, 1947.

Lettie was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.  She retired in 1987 after serving as the cook for the Littlestown School District and Little People Day Care.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Cook and husband Bill of California, Beverly Sheely and husband Jeff, and Vicky Martin and husband Ben of Hanover: 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Hoffheins and Nancy Nester.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Markle and William Markle.

Lettie liked playing games, especially Scrabble, loved crocheting, and enjoyed cooking.

A funeral service to celebrate Lettie’s life will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with her son-in-law Pastor Jeff Sheely officiating.  Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens.  A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10-11 AM, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, 17 Wayne Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331.
