Lois E. Knott

Lois Eileen Knott, age 80, of Hanover, PA, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, at Pappus House in Thomasville, PA, surrounded by her loving family. Lois was born on January 27, 1946, in Hanover, PA, to the late Lawrence and Pauline (Nace) Sterner. She was the loving wife of Ronald L. Knott, with whom she would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on August 31, 2026.

A 1963 graduate of New Oxford High School, Lois was a creative and independent woman who built a successful career doing what she loved. In 1971, she established her own advertising business, which was later renamed Why Knott Advertising. She remained passionate about her work until her retirement in October 2015. Her artistic talent and creativity made a lasting impression on many local businesses, as she designed logos and other advertising materials that can still be seen throughout the community. She carried that same creativity into her personal life, taking great pleasure in creating beautiful scrapbooks that preserved treasured family memories.

Above all, Lois cherished her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and especially enjoyed bringing everyone together for family gatherings. Her home was often filled with laughter, stories, good food, and the people she loved most. Her family will fondly remember gathering around her table to enjoy her homemade pot pie or salmon cakes, always followed by a sweet treat. During these days together, it was not abnormal to catch Lois reciting “Prinderella and the Cince” from memory much to the amusement of her friends and family. Some of Lois’s happiest memories were made going on adventures with her grandchildren, including camping and trips to places like Niagara Falls, Great Wolf Lodge, and Knoebels. These traditions and family gatherings created memories that her children and grandchildren will carry with them always.

Lois’s faith was also an important part of her life. She attended Hanover First Church of God for many years and was a member of the Christian Women’s Club, where she previously served as president. Her faith was evident in the way she treated every person she met with compassion, forgiveness, kindness, and generosity. She was a woman who gave freely of herself to the people she loved and will be remembered for the warmth, humor, creativity, and love she brought into their lives.

In addition to her husband, Ronald, Lois is survived by her sister, Elaine Reynold and her husband, Robert; her two children, Mark Knott and his wife, Vicky, and Cathi Gibbs and her husband, Mark; and her five grandchildren, Lance Knott and his wife, Whitney, TJ Knott, Kayleigh Gibbs and her fiancé, Danny, Colton Knott, and Zach Gibbs and his wife, Meagan.

A funeral service celebrating Lois’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA. Burial will follow at Marburg Memorial Gardens in Hanover, PA. Visitation and a time for family and friends to share memories will be held from 10:00–11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
