Lothar M. Boczek, 91, of Hanover, PA, entered into God’s eternal care Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Homewood of Plum Creek surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 27, 1934, in Brieg, Bezirk Breslau, Germany, he was the son of the late Max Alfred and Frieda Margarethe (Buerkner) Boczek. Lothar was the beloved husband of the late Shirley M. (Coppersmith) Boczek, with whom he shared 70 beautiful years of marriage until her passing on March 21, 2026.
Lothar graduated from Donauworth High School in Germany, class of 1950, and the following year he immigrated from Germany to the United States. He was a past member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and a member and former president of the Edelweiss Club, Inc. of Baltimore, MD. He was the producer and announcer of the German Language “Edelweiss Hour” program for many years. He was an accomplished violinist, accordionist, guitarist, and harmonicist. He also played in the Drum & Bugle Corp., which is how he met Shirley, the love of his life. Lothar sang and acted in many skits at Homewood and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He was the manager of the development laboratory at AAI Corp. in Cockeysville, MD, for 361/2 years, retiring on February 1, 1994.
Lothar loved his family and cherished having everyone together.
He is survived by his children, David B. Boczek and wife, Jennifer of York, PA, Christopher M. Boczek and wife, Lillie of Philadelphia, PA, Patricia A. Ward-Siegfried and husband, Alan of Selbyville, DE, and Deborah S. Null of Hanover, PA; eight grandchildren, David Boczek, Bonnie Hintenach, Luke Boczek, Jason Boczek, Barbara Boczek, Ryan Ward, Jeffrey Ward, Amanda Runk; five great-grandchildren, Madyson Boczek, Brantley Currens, Wells Ward, Madeline Ward, and Cooper Ward; and a sister-in-law, Virginia L. Gesell of Manchester, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM, Thursday, July 30, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA, with Father Michael Rothan as celebrant. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10 – 11 AM, Thursday, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Homewood at Plum Creek Benevolent Fund, 425 Westminster Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331 or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA 17331.
