Lucy I. Hughes

Lucy I. Hughes, 90, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the Hanover Hall Nursing Center with her loving family by her side.

Born August 13, 1933, in Bakersville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Edward & Rosa E. (Ellis) Garland.  She was the loving wife of the late Ralph Hughes with whom she shared 64 years of marriage until his passing on September 19, 2015.

Lucy retired from Danskin, Inc. after 17 years of service.

Lucy was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jefferson Fire Company.

Lucy was a loving mom, and grandmother.  She enjoyed gardening and loved to cook for her family.  Her house was always an open door and you never left hungry.

loved Lucy is survived by her children, Barbara Lee Ball and husband Jerry of Hanover, PA, Jimmy Hughes and wife Betty of Spring Grove, PA; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; and one sister, Mary Hughes of Hampstead, MD.  She was preceded in death by six brothers, Eddie, Richard, Bill, Oliver, Robert, and Roy Garland; and three sisters, Ruby Feathers, Sue Ella Johnson, and Mae Fowler.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Lucy will be held 11 AM, Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Allen Harris officiating. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, PA.

Serving as casketbearers will be Timmy Hughes, Jason Hughes, Gregory Ball, Jimmy Trump, Jake Hughes, and Sam Hughes.  Honorary casketbearers will be Jason Hughes, Jr., and Christopher Hughes.
