He was a loving father, grandfather (Papaw), and great-grandfather. To his wife of 57 years (Doris LaRue Warner), who preceded him in death in 2008, he was Paul. Luther Paul Pottorff, 90, a long-time resident of Hanover, Pennsylvania, departed his earthly body on Thursday, February 8, 2024, and is now present with his Lord.
According to the Scriptures, “…we walk by faith, not by sight: we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Cor.5:7-8)
Luther was born on October 28, 1933. He spent a lifetime working with his hands! He hunted and fished. He built houses and operated his own berry farm. He was a craftsman, carpenter, furniture-builder. He worked for his family and helped in his church. He used his skills to bless many friends. A son of the late Jane Baumgardner and Milton Pottorff, Luther received only an eighth-grade education; but he was always learning and working. He was a self-starter and a man from the Greatest Generation.
He is greatly missed by his four daughters and their husbands: Diane (Joe) Lighty of Spring Grove, Danita (Bruce) Klein of Middletown, Colleen (Allen) Kress of Spring Grove, and Wanda (Doug) Myers of Fannettsburg. He lives on in the memories of fifteen grandchildren and thirty-nine great-grandchildren. Luther is also survived by his sisters Anna Hernandez and Ruth Hagerman. In addition to his wife, Luther was preceded in death by his sister, Martha, his granddaughter, Mariah, and his great-granddaughter, Abigail.
