Nedalyn “Nini” C. Houck, 87, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s Eternal care, Thursday, June 24, 2021, at UPMC Pinnacle, Hanover with her loving family by her side.
Born September 12, 1933, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Richard E. and Bertha L. (Hostetter) Charmbury. She was the loving wife of Fern “Jack” L. Houck with whom she would have shared 66 years of marriage this July 16th.
Nini was a 1951 graduate of Eichelberger High School, and a 1955 graduate of Pennsylvania State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts and Letters, while at Penn State, she was a president of the social sorority, Gamma Phi Beta.
Nini was a member and volunteered at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA. She also served as a board member at the VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove. Nini volunteered at the Hanover Council of Churches’ clothing bank and PAL lunch program, the Red Cross bloodmobile, and the Hanover Area Historical Society’s auctions. She was affectionately known as the fastnacht lady in the Hanover Area, making fastnachts for neighbors and family alike.
Nini enjoyed giving of her time and talent to serve others in need and loved her family dearly.
In addition to her loving husband, Jack, Nini is survived by three daughters, Debra Mayers and husband Curt of Lancaster, PA, Susan Hardin and husband Paul of Franklin, TX, and Stacy Mummert and husband Timothy of Hanover, PA; nine grandchildren, Jason Mayers and wife Julie, Chad Mayers and wife Averlyn, Amy Hummer and husband Anton, Ryan Hardin and wife Shannon, Allison Higginbotham and husband Austin, Zachary Hardin and wife Victoria, Logan Mummert, Paige Mummert, and Finley Mummert; ten great-grandchildren, Carley, Roslyn, Avery, Colton, Delaney, Marley, Fiona, Regina, Mackenzie, and Addison; and a brother, Richard E. Charmbury, Jr. of Merritt Island, FL.
Services for the public will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nini’s name to the St. Mark Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 129 Charles Street, Hanover, PA 17331 or to the YWCA Safe Home Program, 23 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
