Niles J. "Jack" Martin Obituary

Niles J. “Jack” Martin, 88, of Sebring, FL, formerly of Gettysburg, PA, entered God’s eternal care Friday, June 5, 2026, at Southern Life Assisted Living, Lake Placid, FL, with his loving family by his side.

Born November 16, 1937, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Niles W. and Helen L. (Young) Martin.  Niles was the loving husband of the late Mary E. (Mryncza) Martin, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage until her passing on December 28, 2001. 

Niles was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Bonneauville, PA.

Niles was a veteran and served his country proudly in the United States Army and Air Force. He was a life member of the CWV and the FOE.

Niles was a 1955 graduate of Sparrows Point H.S., Baltimore, MD.  He was an engineer for Martin Aircraft, Westinghouse, and then Schindler Elevator, for a total of 31 years until his retirement in 2003. During his career, he worked on NASA’s Apollo Space Program and had several US patents. 

Niles enjoyed his cars and was always talking about them at car shows, he was always willing to help out a friend or neighbor and loved his pets and spending time with his family and friends. 

Niles is survived by three sons, Michael S. & Lisa Martin of Sebring, FL, Richard J. & Pernille Martin of Winter Springs, FL, and David R. & Michele Martin of Littlestown, PA; 5 grandchildren, Gwendolyn Martin of Baltimore, MD, Jillian Martin of Littlestown, Danica Martin of Littlestown, Caroline Petersson of Sweden, and Camilla Ostergren of Sweden; 5 great-grandchildren, Ebba, Karl, Isabelle, Agnes, and Alva; and one brother, Frank W. Martin, Sr. and his wife Jackie of Hanover, PA.  He was preceded in death by 2 siblings & 1 daughter; Robert Martin, Viola Martin & Donna Lee Martin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM, Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 12 East Hanover Street, Gettysburg, PA, with Father Benny Jose as celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Joseph the Worker Church Cemetery, Bonneauville, PA.  Visitations and times to share memories with the family will be held from 1-3PM and 5-7PM, Monday, June 15, 2026, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 66 East Hanover Street, Gettysburg (Bonneauville), PA.
