Norman E. Stambaugh

Norman E. Stambaugh, age 89 of Spring Grove, PA, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, at his home.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Norma J. Stambaugh.

Norman was born in Hanover, PA, on June 6, 1936. He was the son of the late Norman B. and Lottie E. (Miller) Stambaugh.  He was raised in Porter Sideling and moved about a mile away where he spent the rest of his life.  He was a third-generation railroader working for 43 years for CSX, formerly the Western Maryland Railway, retiring in 1998.  Norman served many years as Secretary/Treasurer for the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, Lodge 1225.  His name appears in the Railroaders Hall of Fame at the Strasburg Railroad Museum.  He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, formerly serving on the Board of Directors.  He was also a lifetime member of the NRA and AARP.

Norman was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was a collector of antique railroad and farm items as well as pedal tractors and cars.

Norman is survived by his daughter, Cindy Reese and husband Mark of McSherrystown, his granddaughters, Heather Hockensmith and husband Ben of Hanover and Amber Miller of McSherrystown, 3 great-grandchildren Hayden and Ella Hockensmith of Hanover and Ian Riley of McSherrystown, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth and Norwood Stambaugh.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Norman will be held 2:00PM,  Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Pastor Jason Myers officiating.  Burial will be in York Road Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 1:00-2:00PM,      day, July 29, 2025, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
