Phyllis Mae Berkheimer

Phyllis Mae Berkheimer, 81, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2021, at her home with her family by her side.  Born in Lititz, PA, on December 17, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Paul Alban Smith and Doris Billman Smith.  Phyllis was the loving wife of Paul L. Berkheimer.  Phyllis and Paul would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 11, 2021. 

Phyllis graduated from Delone Catholic High School in 1957 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  She retired from the Hanover Public School District in 2000.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Scott Berkheimer of York PA, Craig Berkheimer of New Oxford PA, Penny Berkheimer of Hanover and Brian Berkheimer and his wife Melanie, of Hanover, grandchildren Ashley Becker and his wife Megan of Pittsburgh, Elijah Berkheimer of McSherrystown, Natalie Berkheimer and Lily Berkheimer of Hanover, great-grandsons Bentley and Colton Becker of Pittsburgh and her sister, Jean L. Rhodes of Keller, Texas.  She is also survived by many dear friends, including her friends of 70 years, Gloria, Sheila, and Judy, with whom she shared many memories playing cards and games, going on trips and laughing.   Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother, Benson Smith.

Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, doing puzzles, playing cards and games, painting ceramics, coloring, and going on trips.   Most recently she looked forward to traveling to Cape May each summer with her daughter and to Ocean City with her husband.  She loved her flower gardens and spent many hours planning and enjoying them.  Phyllis enjoyed the new friends she made in the past seven years at Deerfield, taking walks, checking out the neighbor’s flowers, or simply chatting.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hirsh and his staff, Dr. Shah and his staff, and Compassionate Care Hospice of Harrisburg for their care and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 5225 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA, with Father Samuel Miller as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, New Oxford.   A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10 -11 AM, Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the church.   For those unable to attend the service will be live streamed at www.kenworthyfh.com.
