Phyllis R. “Dolly” (Bechtel) Riley, 94, entered God’s eternal care, Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Homewood at Plum Creek surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 27, 1928, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Eltia (Karicoaf) Bechtel. Phyllis was the loving wife of R. Kenneth Riley with whom she married on April 2, 1949, and together they shared 61 wonderful years until his passing on June 21, 2010.
Phyllis was a 1946 graduate of Eichelberger High School, Hanover, PA. She worked at Middleburg, Black & Decker, and SKF prior to her retirement.
Phyllis was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA.
Phyllis enjoyed volunteering with many different organizations in Hanover, including St. Paul’s, the PAL Lunch Program, and the Clothing Bank at the Council of Churches. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be missed greatly.
Phyllis leaves behind three children, James W. Riley and wife, Glenna, of New Oxford, Sharon L. Braun and husband, Edwin, of Hanover, and Kathy L. Riley Groft, of Hanover; four grandchildren, Kimberly Kulow, of New Oxford, Beth Braun and partner Rob Yingling, of Dover, PA, Lauren Braun Allen and husband David, of Dover, PA, and Anthony LaLota and wife Rebecca, of Mill Hall, PA; three great grandchildren, Riley and Audrey Arter, and Enzo LaLota; and her dearest life-long friend, Joanne Klinedinst. She was preceded in death by eleven siblings.
A service of remembrance will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover PA, with the Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA. The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 AM, Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the funeral home.
