Richard K. Herr, 86, of Littlestown, PA died March 7, 2024, at home surrounded by family.

Born on November 14, 1937, in Littlestown, PA, he was the son of the late Harold M. and Frances (Kuhns) Herr and the stepson of the late Rhoda (Lehman) Herr.  Richard was the loving husband of Hilda M. (Grove) Herr with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

Richard was a graduate of New Oxford High School in 1955 and served as an officer in Future Farmers of America.

He started farming in 1960 and continued to enjoy this occupation until his later years. During the last fifteen years of his life, he was involved in advising the farming community through Anabaptist Financial.

Richard was ordained to the ministry in 1966 at the age of 28 and served the Hanover, Bair’s and Hostetter’s Mennonite congregations. He was ordained as bishop in 1983 and was involved in various churches, giving bishop oversight on an interim basis.

He traveled extensively to many communities, preaching in evangelistic and church meetings across the United States and Canada.

He was involved in teaching at multiple Bible schools and many local community Bible studies.

Richard served on various boards, committees, and educational organizations such as Sharon Mennonite Bible Institute, Faith Builders Educational Programs and Anabaptist Brotherhood.

Richard was a member of Garbers Mennonite Church.

In addition to his loving wife Hilda, Richard is survived by his children, Marcella A. Schlabach and husband Elijah of Seney, MI, Laverne R. Herr and wife Sue of Madisonville, TN, Merle A. Herr and wife Amy of Guys Mills, PA, Diane A. Fuhrman and husband Doug of Thomasville, PA, Marilyn S. Miller and husband Brent of Watsontown, PA, Arlin D. Herr and wife Janetta of Nappanee, IN, Linette J. Horst and husband Randy of Hagerstown, MD, 28 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two siblings, Glenn E. Herr of Gettysburg, PA and Arlene Stambaugh of Hanover, PA.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Clair E. Herr.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 11:00 am. Visitations will be held Monday, March 11, 2024, from 1-3 pm and 5-8 pm and Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 1-3 pm and 5-8.  Both the funeral and visitations will be held at Calvary Bible Church, 603 Wilson Ave., Hanover, PA. Burial will be in Hostetter’s Mennonite Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
