Richard P. Murphy Jr., 71, of Glenville, PA, entered into God’s eternal care on a beautiful, warm, and sunny Wednesday afternoon, March 19, 2025, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born August 11, 1953, in Keene, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Richard P. and Geraldine M. (Doody) Murphy. Richard was the loving husband of Robin M. (Desrosiers) Murphy, with whom he shared twenty-nine years of marriage.
Richard was a graduate of Monadnock High School, and received a B.S. from Keene State College, Keene, NH. He employed his knowledge and expertise across many facets of the automotive and insurance industries throughout his career.
Richard’s life journey began in Keene, NH, where he nurtured a love for sports and excelled in track and field and football. Richard is a Washington Commanders fan through and through with John Riggins, his all-time revered player.
Richard deeply appreciated the finesse of a fine car and embraced his love for the automobile in both his work and free time. He was a literary enthusiast who fed his passion for history, as well as his favorite authors – Stephen King, John Grisham, and David Baldacci.
Richard was the ultimate handyman and Mr. Fix It and has helped many along the way with his ability to fix anything. He was also a bit of a sugar maniac and loved all things sweet. There was no such thing as too much chocolate.
Richard loved his family unconditionally. His proudest moments were the birth of his son Richard and of his daughter Rose. Richard was filled with endless pride and joy as he watched Richard play football, wrestle, and complete his college education. His pride and gratitude, felt once again as he watched Rose play soccer, run cross-country, compete in track and field, and complete her college degree.
The 29 years of marriage had countless memorable moments – family vacations, holiday celebrations, and that weekend in Fenway where he watched the Red Sox’s Clay Buckholz pitch a no-hitter against the Orioles on September 1, 2007.
Richard will be missed for his intense love of his family, the little things he did to make each day brighter, his belly laugh that made his face turn red, and his sarcastic sense of humor, only for those he loved. Our hearts are heavy with sadness, but we will celebrate the Joy he brought us each and every day knowing how deeply we were loved.
In addition to his loving wife, Robin, Richard is survived by two children, Richard P. Murphy III, of Princeton, TX, and Rose M. Murphy, of McKinney, TX; and four siblings, Bruce Murphy, Randy Murphy, Stacy Talbot, and Lisa Stevens.
Following cremation, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
