Robert W. Winebrenner, 89, entered God’s eternal care, Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born August 8, 1932, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Eleanor D. (Myton) Winebrenner. Robert was the loving husband of the Karen L. (Ensminger) Winebrenner, who died June 8, 2016, and with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Robert attended Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Hanover, PA.
Robert graduated from Eichelberger High School in 1950, and Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, in 1954. Upon graduation from college, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly as a 1st Lieutenant of the 519th Field Artillery in Babenhausen, Germany, during the Korean War. Robert was co-owner and manager of Shirk’s Hardware, where he worked for twenty-five years until his retirement in 2000.
Robert was the president of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity while at Cornell University, a former president of the Hanover Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), a former president of the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Board of Managers, a former president of the Hanover Retail Merchants Association, a member of the American Legion – Post #14 of Hanover, PA, served on the Hanover Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Downtown Hanover Inc. Board of Directors, and was a member and past president of the Devil’s Den Sportsmen’s Association of Tioga County, PA.
Robert is survived by his sons, Jeffrey R. Winebrenner and wife Janell of Lewisberry, PA, and Gregory L. Winebrenner and wife Lisa of Lewisberry, PA; three grandchildren, Erin Winebrenner and Kyle Winebrenner, and Steven Wetten; and a brother, Andrew S. Winebrenner of Hanover, PA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas M. Winebrenner.
Following cremation, services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
