Robert James Juergens, 72, of Hanover, PA, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 13, 2025 after a brief illness. He passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side.
He was born on July 27, 1952, in Seattle, WA. and was the son of the late Robert G. and Ruth M. Juergens. A 1970 graduate of Havre de Grace High School in Havre de Grace, MD, he graduated from Shippensburg University in 1979 with a BS in Mathematics, and also graduated from Navy Officer Candidate School in the same year. Robert proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1970-76 and then as an officer from 1979-83 earning the rank of Lieutenant. He was stationed aboard 2 destroyers, USS McCloy (DE-1038) and USS Comte de Grasse (DD-974) based out of Norfolk, VA, with his final assignment as Anti-Submarine Warfare officer. Some commendations he received were Navy Good Conduct Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
He retired from Henson Paving Co. after 25 years of service, and had previously worked as a trim carpenter and a school teacher. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church and did maintenance at the Shepherd’s Fold Day Care (known as Mr. Bob). He stayed busy as a handyman, prepared taxes, and kept up with all the projects around the house. He always thought of others before himself and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Eilene (Schorner) Juergens; his sons, David Juergens (Whitney) of Nashville, TN, Samuel Juergens (Nichole) of Cumming, GA, and Benjamin Juergens (Mary Lisa) of New York, NY; and his 7 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert G. Juergens; mother, Ruth M. Juergens; and brother, Ernest Juergens.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 22, at Calvary Bible Church, 603 Wilson Ave., Hanover, PA. Visitation be held 10-11 AM at the church. Burial will be held at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Hanover.
