Roberta J. Nye

Roberta J. Nye, 97, of Hanover, formerly New Oxford, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Columbia Cottage, Hanover, with loving family by her side.  Born June 25, 1927, in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ruth P. Dubel and Russell Gordon.  Roberta was the loving wife of the late Allen Troy Nye, who passed in January 1989, with whom she shared 17 years of marriage.

Roberta is survived by her four children, Roann Kuykendall and husband Ronald of Cashtown, PA, Jerry Schneider of Canon City, CO, Mark Kauffman and wife Tara of Hanover, and Jeff Kauffman and wife Lisa of New Oxford; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her daughter in law, Eva Schneider.

Roberta was a 1945 graduate of Hagerstown High School.  After moving to Pennsylvania in the 1960’s, she was employed by Giant Foods in Gettysburg & Kleffel’s in Hanover.  Roberta is best known as the “Avon Lady” in the New Oxford area, going door to door, selling & delivering Avon for 39 years, well into her late 80’s.

Roberta loved her family and getting together on holidays.  She enjoyed traveling, including bus trips and the beach. Some of her favorites were a trip to Hawaii with Troy, and trips to visit extended family on the west coast.  Roberta enjoyed going out and dancing, watching her soaps (The Young & The Restless), the Game Show Network, Baltimore Orioles, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Thank you to the staff at Columbia Cottage in Hanover for the care provided to Roberta over the last three years.

Visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 1p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 269 Frederick Street, Hanover.  A brief service will then follow, with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, following the service.
