Rodney E. Shearer

Rodney E. Shearer, 73, of Spring Grove, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the Gardens at Gettysburg, Gettysburg, PA. 

Born June 6, 1947, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Kenneth C. and Ruth E. (Stambaugh) Shearer, and the stepson of Jean Shearer.   Rodney was the loving husband of Cynthia E. (Andreas) Shearer with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

Rodney was a veteran and served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War with the 87th Engineers Battalion earning a Purple Heart for his service.  

Born and raised in York, County, PA, Rodney was a 1966 graduate of Spring Grove High School, where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America.   He worked as a sewing machine mechanic for Dallco of York, and J. Dashew in Baltimore, MD. 

Rodney was a member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, Spring Grove, PA.  He was a member of the Spring Grove VFW, the Jefferson Sportsman Club, and the NRA.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reloading, gardening, and wine making.

In addition to his loving wife, Cindy, Rodney is survived by his children, Rodney E. Shearer, II of York, PA, and Monica L. Shearer of Taunton, MA; four grandchildren, James, Alyssa, Lita, and Donald; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Michael Shearer of Ramrod Key, FL, and Timothy Shearer of Hanover, PA; a sister, Susan Wallick of York, PA; and stepbrothers, and stepsisters. 

A memorial service will be held 11:30 AM, Saturday, September 18, 2021 at The Spring Grove VFW Post 5265,  199 Veterans Way, Spring Grove,  with the Rev. Larry Smith officiating.  Burial will follow the service in St. Jacobs Union Cemetery, York New Salem, PA, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail providing Military Honors.
