Roger Moul Obituary

Roger Nelson Moul, 92, of Hanover, PA, died at UPMC – Memorial Hospital, Friday, May 7, 2021.  Born June 26, 1928 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Oscar and Mabel Little Moul.  He was the companion of the late Goldie Harbaugh for over 47 years.  He made his home with his late sister and brother-in-law Ethel and Lawrence Miller.

Roger graduated from Eichelberger High School in 1946.  He worked at several businesses before his induction into the Army in November 1950.  After six weeks of training at Camp Pickett, Virginia, he was deployed to Korea through 1951.  He served in the 25th Infantry Division of the 90th Field Artillery Battalion.  After Korea he finished his tour of service at Camp Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Roger was employed at Montgomery Ward Department Store in Hanover in various capacities and became Assistant Store Manager.  In December 1975 at the closing of the Hanover store, he became the owner of Wintrode Auto Supplies in Hanover for 18 years.  Upon selling the business, he retired, but continued to act as a consultant.

Roger was a life member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on York Street.  He served as a Sunday School teacher, Assistant General Superintendent of Sunday School and delivered sermons to many churches in the local vicinity.  He was a generous contributor to the youth group annually from the proceeds of sales from his baked goods that were auctioned, which funded their mission trips.

Roger was a life member of the VFW, Hanover Post 2506, a member of the American Legion, former member of the Hanover Moose and the Lyric Club of Hanover.  He was a world traveler and enjoyed his baking, cooking, and beautiful roses.

Roger is survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as Goldie’s children, Ann L. Kehr, Robrt W. Harbaugh, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, whom he treated as his own.  Roger was preceded in death by all his siblings; ten sisters, Mabel Moul, Lera Thoman, Ethel Miller, Beatrice Rohrbaugh, Jessie Kuhns, Mildred Trump, Mary Rinehart, Helen Moul, Florence Moul, and Grace Moul; and eight brothers, Nevin Moul, John Moul, O. Earl Moul, Malcolm Moul, George Moul, Harold Moul, Eldon Moul, and Philip Moul.

A celebration of life will be held 1 PM, Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with the Rev. E. Robert Burkhart officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.   The Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Gard Burial Detail will provide Military Honors.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 26 York Street, Hanover, PA 17331, or the Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
