Sally M. Hershey

Sally M. Hershey, 78, of Hanover, PA, passed away, Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Homewood at Plum Creek Nursing Center.

Born January 5, 1943, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late David K. and Ica (Gardner) Hershey.

Ms. Hershey was in the first graduating class of South Western High School.  She received her RN degree from Washington Hospital Center in DC in 1964.

Sally worked at Hanover Hospital for 42 years, holding many different positions within the nursing department, and retiring as a nursing supervisor.

After retiring from the Hospital, Sally had been a volunteer/member of the Hanover Area Council of Churches, the Hanover Area Historical Society, the Hanover Library/Pennsylvania Room, Penn Township Lioness Club, VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove Hospice, and an American Red Cross Blood Donor.  She was the 2006 recipient of the Golden Deed Award presented by the Hanover Exchange Club.

Ms. Hershey was  a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA.

In earlier years, Sally enjoyed traveling with family and friends throughout the US and abroad, reading, and listening to Big Band music.  She enjoyed researching the family history, genealogy, and doing puzzles. 

Sally is survived by her sister, Suzanne Bollinger of Hanover, PA; nieces, Cynthia S. Staub of New Oxford, PA and Peggy J. Havens of  West Chester, PA.  She was a great aunt to Bradley A. Staub, Lisa A. Schiel, Megan Burton and Jay Showvaker; and a great great aunt to Aspen R. Schiel, Brody K. Schiel, and Luke W. Burton.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Sally’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 16, 2021, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 129 Charles Street, Hanover, PA, with her Pastor the Rev. Kirk A. Griffin officiating.  Burial will be in York Road Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10 -11 AM, Friday, July 16, 2021, at the church.
