Sandra K. (Graeter) Gilpin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and artist, passed away peacefully at her residence Sunday. September 21, 2025. She was the devoted wife of John Gilpin, with whom she shared 58 years of love and partnership.
Born on June 25, 1942, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Sandra was the daughter of the late John and Naomi Graeter. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John. A proud graduate of Lancaster McCaskey High School (Class of 1960), Sandra pursued her passion for education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education from Millersville University in 1964 and a Master of Education from Temple University in 1967.
Sandra began her teaching career in the Lancaster City School District, later continuing in the Hanover School District after relocating to Hanover with her husband. Her dedication to education touched countless young lives.
In 1980, Sandra embraced a new path as an artistic designer and craftsman, specializing in the intricate folk art of Scherenschnitte (scissor cutting). Over the next four decades, she built a distinguished career, earning numerous accolades for her artistry and craftsmanship. Her work reflected both precision and passion, and she became a respected figure in the artistic community.
She is survived by her loving husband, John; her two sons, Andrew of Alplaus, NY, and his partner Danette and her children, Degan and Kylie; and Matthew of Arlington, MA, and his wife Julianne and their daughters, Adeline and Olivia. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate to know her.
Sandra will be remembered for her gentle spirit, creative brilliance, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of service, artistry, and grace.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 890 McCosh Street, Hanover, PA. with the Rev. Carenda Baker officiating. Visitation will begin at the church - 10 AM with a service following at the church - 11 AM. Burial will be private.
