Scott Berkheimer Obituary

Scott Alban Berkheimer, 59, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021, at Manor Care South, York, PA, after a two‐year battle with cancer.

Scott was born on February 4, 1962, in Hanover, PA, the oldest child of Paul L. and Phyllis M. Berkheimer.

Scott is survived by siblings, Craig Berkheimer of New Oxford, PA, Penny Berkheimer, and Brian Berkheimer (Melanie) of Hanover, nephews and nieces, Ashley, Elijah, Natalie, and Lily. Scott was very fond of his aunt, Jean L. Rhodes of Keller, Texas. Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Berkheimer, on March 1, 2021.

Scott lived with and was under treatment for schizophrenia for 40 years and lived in assisted living homes in Hanover, York, and Rutland, Vermont. A special thanks to all the fine people who helped Scott along the way and especially to Spring Lake Ranch in Rutland, Vermont, who helped Scott understand and cope with his illness. Despite his illness, Scott always had an optimistic outlook, making the best of his circumstances, and enjoying his life. He was a compassionate man who always considered others above himself. He made friends easily and could talk to anyone.

Some of Scott’s passions included reading, playing guitar, his knife collection, and listening to music. His heavy metal record and CD collections were vast. He was extremely close to his mother and over the years took trips to Tennessee, Vermont, Ocean City and Reading.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dan Sotirescu, Dr. Elizabeth Aubike, Compassionate Care Hospice of Harrisburg, and Manor Care South and all the staff for their care and support.

The viewing will be private and burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in New Oxford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spring Lake Ranch, 1169 Spring Lake Road, Cuttingsville VT 05838.
